Ordering in South Korea: how the menu works

Korean menus are mostly about portions and minimums. Once you know how a price is counted, grill restaurants and set menus get a lot easier.

Prices are per serving

A price next to 1인분 is for one serving. Many grill restaurants only take orders of 2인분 or more, so a solo diner may be turned away or asked to pay for two. 2인분부터 means “from two servings”.

시가 means ask first

시가 replaces the price for items sold at market price, common with seafood. Ask the price before ordering.

Side dishes

Many restaurants bring 반찬 with the main dish at no extra charge and refill them on request. Not all of them do, so look at what is listed before assuming.

How Koala Order helps

Photograph the menu and read names, per-serving prices and set contents in one pass. Pick what you want and generate an order card in Korean that includes serving counts.

Ordering as a group

Grill meals are ordered by servings for the table. A shared table lets each person add what they want, and the host sees the totals before ordering. The link lasts 12 hours.

Allergies

Sesame, soy and shellfish are common in Korean cooking. AI reading can be wrong, so confirm allergies with the staff.
